Church of Grace Embraces High-Quality Sound Technology

In a recent upgrade, Grace Church in Greenville, SC, has deployed the Waves eMotion LV1 Classic console at its largest campus on Pelham Road. This state-of-the-art console, known for its flawless performance and zero failures, has been warmly received by the band and pastoral staff.

The transition to the LV1 Classic has been met with positive feedback due to its high-resolution preamps, clarity, and the warmth and punch achieved through Waves plugins. Jeff Sandstrom, the front-of-house engineer at Grace Church, has chosen this console for managing FOH and monitor operations, praising its seamless processing workflow that eliminates the need for manual latency alignment within the console's processor.

Backstage, two DSPRO StageGrid 4000s and an IONIC 16 stagebox handle most of the band inputs. Another IONIC 16 manages drum and tracks inputs on the drum riser. Handheld and headset microphones, as well as video playback, are integrated into the productions managed by the eMotion LV1 Classic console.

In the video booth, a DSPRO StageGrid 1000 is used for playbacks. The LV1 Classic's matrix mixer manages live audio routing, sending mixes to recording feeds, the lobby, and overflow areas. The console is used to mix music for an 800-seat venue, which includes a full drum kit, bass guitar, two electric guitars, acoustic guitar, keys, tracks, and four vocalists.

The immersive headphone mixes are created using Waves Nx software. Musicians control their mixes remotely using the Waves MyMon Personal Monitor Mixing App on their phones. The LV1 Classic's flexible matrix capabilities allow for tailored audio distribution across different spaces. Outputs from the IONIC are sent analog to the PA system.

Sermons at Grace Church are prerecorded and sent as files to each campus for playback during services. The small footprint of the eMotion LV1 Classic allows for comfortable and efficient management of FOH and A2 operations, along with a second screen and computer for recording and virtual playback.

When other locations' consoles reach the end of their lifecycle, they will be replaced with the eMotion LV1 Classic. Sandstrom frequently uses the SSL E-Channel for snare drum and vocals, the H-Comp Hybrid Compressor for drum channels, the API 550 EQ on several inputs, an API 2500 compressor on the kick drum, the Kramer PIE Compressor on the parallel drum bus, and the API 2500 on the LR bus.

The transition to the eMotion LV1 Classic has proven to be a successful one for Grace Church, providing a high-quality audio experience for both the performers and the congregation.
